Spaghetti Bolognese

500g Northern Ireland Farm Quality Assured minced beef

1 onion

1 clove garlic 

100g smoked streaky bacon

1 x 15ml spoon (1 tbsp) oil

1 x reduced salt beef stock cube

100ml water

2 x 5ml spoons (2 tsp) dried oregano or mixed herbs

400g can chopped tomatoes

1 x 15ml spoon (1 tbsp) tomato puree

Black pepper

400g quick cook spaghetti


Chopping boards, knives, garlic crusher, measuring spoons, frying pan, wooden spoon, measuring jug, fork, saucepan, colander. 


  1. Peel and chop the onion. Peel and crush the garlic.
  2. On a separate chopping board, slice the streaky bacon.  Remember to thoroughly wash your hands after handling raw meat.
  3. Heat the oil in a frying pan and cook the onion, garlic and bacon for 3 minutes.
  4. Add the mince and cook for 5 minutes until browned.
  5. Dissolve the stock cube in 100ml of boiling water.
  6. Stir in the stock, herbs, canned tomatoes and tomato puree and season with black pepper. Cook for 15-20 minutes stirring occasionally.
  7. While the mince is cooking, cook the spaghetti in boiling water.  Drain once cooked.
  8. Serve the mince on top of the spaghetti with a green salad.
