The perfect steak

  • Oven temp 180C/350F/ gas4


2 x 300g Northern Ireland Quality Assured Sirloin or Rib eye steaks

1 x 5ml spoon (1 tsp) olive oil

Black pepper

To serve

Salad leaves

Cherry tomatoes

Crusty bread


Frying pan, baking tray, oven gloves, tongs, tin foil.


  1. Remove the steak from the fridge 45 minutes before cooking to bring to room temperature.
  2. Pre-heat the oven to 180oC or gas mark 4.
  3. Using your hands, rub the steaks with the olive oil and black pepper.  Remember to wash your hands thoroughly after handling raw meat.
  4. Heat a large frying pan until very hot and sear the steaks for 1 minute on each side.
  5. Place the steaks on the baking tray and cook in the oven for 4-7 minutes.
  6. Remove the steaks from the oven and wrap in tin foil to rest for 5 minutes.
  7. Remove the steaks from the tin foil and serve with crusty bread and salad.
